- A story of a young man, who deals with bullying issues as an aggressor at school and a victim at home. Produced by the non-profit AFME Foundation and Radiant Imagination Media, The Time That Remains addresses many social issues - bullying, PTSD, domestic violence, guns, and the loss of a parent - in a realistic way. All are showcased in a way that keep the audience on the edge of their seat. The goal of the movie is to show the real story behind why bullies do what they do to others, and to stop bullying from where it begins - in the home. Shot on 16 mm film, the movie is impactful for kids and parents alike. With a very experienced crew, the production brought on students from Central New Mexico Community College's Film Program as interns. They were matched in departments where they received hands-on learning opportunities that had a major effect on everyone involved in the four day shoot.
- Steven Salaita (former Associate Professor of English at Virginia Tech) and Sherene Seikaly (UCSB Assistant Professor in History) discuss writer-director Elia Suleiman's The Time That Remains. Winner of the Jury Grand Prize at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, and nominated for a Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, the film is an intimate semi-biographical portrait of Palestinians living as a minority in their own homeland between 1948 and the present day. Inspired by his father's diaries, letters his mother sent to family members who had fled the Israeli occupation, and the director's own recollections, the film recounts the saga of the filmmaker's family in subtly hilarious vignettes.
